FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Libertarian Files Challenge for Ron Paul's Congressional Seat
Austin - December 20, 2007 - Libertarian Eugene J. Flynn filed an application today with the Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) to challenge Congressman Ron Paul for his District 14 seat. Ron Paul is currently a Republican candidate for President and has mentioned publicly he intends to run simultaneously for re-election to Congress.
Wes Benedict, Executive Director of the LPT, said, "Be advised, there's no way I can respond to all of the inquiries from the press, Libertarian Party members, and especially Ron Paul supporters who will be blasting me over this. It's almost Christmas, we're several thousand dollars short of reaching our 2007 budget, and I'm desperately seeking candidates for other offices throughout Texas by the filing deadline of 5:00 PM, January 2, 2008. I don't even have time to provide contact information for over 100 other candidates who have already filed."
All filed candidates seeking the Libertarian Party nomination in Texas for the November 2008 general election, plus some known county candidates, are posted here:

Some of them ran for office in 2006 as well, and their old contact information is posted here:

"This press release is the only statement I intend to issue on Mr. Flynn's filing until after January 2," Benedict said.
Mr. Flynn provided a written statement with his application to the LPT, including this comment: "I agree with Ron Paul about 80% of the time. The problem is the other 20% is the most important to me, that is, immigration." He added, "Ron Paul offers no way to allow those illegally in the U.S. to get right with the law. Instead he wants to spend more and more money to create bigger bureaucracies to secure our borders to protect us from needed workers."
Mr. Flynn is an immigration attorney.
Benedict continued, "Many Libertarian Party members admire and support Ron Paul. I have personally contributed over $800 to Ron Paul's campaign for President. However, anyone can file to seek the Libertarian Party's nomination who meets the qualifications. It's up to the delegates in March to decide whether or not they nominate Mr. Flynn for the election. In fact, in 2006, Mr. Flynn filed for this same seat against Ron Paul, but the Libertarian Party delegates voted to have no nominee in the November 2006 general election, rather than see Mr. Flynn run against Ron Paul. Nevertheless, I respect Mr. Flynn for standing up for his principles.
"Even in 2006, before Ron Paul was nearly as popular as he is today, I got numerous calls telling me the Libertarian Party had to be crazy or stupid for running someone against Ron Paul. That's why I'm trying to get out in front of the issue this time, because there's no way I'll be able to respond to all of the questions and attacks I'm expecting.
"Mr. Flynn has released an email address to contact him for additional information, and I ask that you please don't try to phone him."
