Libertarian Party Quadruples Fundraising

AUSTIN - August 7, 2007 - The Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) raised $54,204.57 during the first six months of 2007, compared to $13,436.37 during the first six months of 2005.

"Our fundraising fluctuates with the two-year election cycle, and off-year fundraising is generally much lower than election-year fundraising. We wanted to compare this year to 2005 so it would be apples to apples," said LPT Executive Director Wes Benedict.

The LPT raised $55,454.24 during the first six months of 2006.

Benedict continued, "We're very pleased with this increase. Our party is better organized and more strongly supported than ever. More voters are discovering that Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same big-government coin, and they are looking for a good small-government alternative."

In the November 2006 general election, a record 168 Libertarian candidates appeared on the ballot in Texas. The LPT hopes to set a new record in 2008.

The figures are based on reports filed by the LPT with the Texas Ethics Commission. The reports are available here:
