FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Libertarian Candidates To Be Nominated in Conventions
Austin, TX - Mar 6, 2006 - The Libertarian Party of Texas (LPT) has 214 candidates seeking the party's nomination. Potential nominees include 17 candidates for statewide offices, 168 candidates for district offices, and 29 candidates for county offices. Nominees will appear on the ballot in the November general election.
Unlike the Republican and Democratic parties, the LPT will nominate its candidates in conventions.
"State law prohibits people who vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries from participating in the Libertarian Party conventions," according to Pat Dixon, Chair of the LPT. "Naturally, we always ask voters to skip the primaries so they can attend our conventions," continued Dixon.
Precinct conventions will be held on March 14. They will select delegates to the county conventions. Registered voters may participate in the precinct conventions, as long as they have not voted in primary elections (or in the conventions of other parties).
Candidates whose office territories are contained within a single county will be nominated at county conventions on March 18.
Candidates whose office territories span multiple counties will be nominated at district conventions on March 25.
Candidates for statewide offices will be nominated at the LPT state convention on June 10 in Houston.
A detailed list of the convention times and locations throughout Texas is available at:

In January the LPT announced 218 candidates; however, several have withdrawn since then. Additionally, the state convention was originally planned for Wichita Falls, but has since been moved to Houston.
